The Design of my EveryDay!

The Smiling Chinese Lemon Juicer
Tea Cup Hiding in the Garden

As I woke up this morning the first thing I noticed was the horrible weather outside my bedroom's windows. Rain, black clouds and even some fog. The already dirty windows didn't help if not to worsen the outside reality! Well, I decided today was the day. The day to start with a fresh orange juice, a big cup of green tea and a good brioche. Yes, the image of my Ikea table embellished by pieces of everyday design by Alessi started to appear on my morning's canvas. Got out of bed. Showered. And got to the kitchen. All freshened up. Got out the Alessi's juicer and tea cup which looked amazing even in their emptiness. Then a realization suddently came to my mind. I had no oranges. No tea and obviously no fresh brioche! The only thing left to do was to get coffee. At the office! Photos by lilypenelope

There are those moments! When you don't have any inspirations. When all you need is a creepy empty room where you can sit, relax and think. Maybe even not this creepy!! Photo by lilypenelope (in the image: my friend Efrem)

What are you looking at?

face2
What are you looking at?
Are you just gazing at something or are you simply staring into space?
The unknown. The Uncanny. The mystery that unfolds right before you.
Thinking deeply about the void.
Constructing walls inside the imaginary.
Transforming the silence into noisy thoughts.
Flatness into inhabitated mountains.
Blue into pink.
Colors into Black and white.
What are you thinking about?
Nothing? Everything?
But then, why would I care.
Maybe you are just waiting for the bus.
In your black and white world.

It's not a symphonic tribute to life! It's Elevator's Music!

By the way! Yesterday the weather was as if spring had a car accident with summer! Hot, nice, colorful, peacefully entertaining, with the sound of the birds singing making you feel you were listening to a symphonic tribute to life! Today it is totally different! Cloudy, foggy, it's raing and it is not particularly warm! I guess spring didn't pass its driving licence test and, instead of going forward, directed to the future, it insanely started going backwards crashing into the forgotten winter that was parked right behind it! Although this type of weather usually relates to peace and calm, for some reason it is not!! The birds are still singing like crazy. Not a symphonic tribute to life though...more an elevator music. The type of music that after 15 floors you wish the door open very quickly and you suddently feel the urge to seek mental help!!!
I like the colors outside though, all those shadows of gray. Yet I also like dreaming about the colors of nature that hopefully tomorrow will be back out in the world ready to be appreciated!

Holy Cow..I am still alive!

If Life ain't a Suit go around Naked!

It has been a very bad week! Nice weather (until today), warm, sunny with the birds singing the everyday symphonie. Yet at work things went a little out of hand. Work and life. Inside and outside. You feel comfortable looking the everyday through your (dirty) windows yet inside the space you feel like you are wearing a pair of old jeans that became smaller...simply because you ate too much or maybe because it is the wrong soap that made them shrink (always blame something else!!!).

So, yesterday was like life wasn't really a nice dress. Old, small and uncomfortable. It simply didn't suit me. Well... if life ain't a suit I should go around naked!! Or, I had other options: 1. change my clothes. 2. Change perspective. 3. Subjectivize reality and make it my brand new dress for the day. 4. Instead of looking outside the window find something in your other window, your computer screen. There you could probably find a new, comfortable perfect dress for the day.
I new exactly what I had in mind! My dear friend ML (a contributor of this blog) has recently done a photo shoot for a fashion Brand named EairTh. When I asked her if I could use her images to put on my blog we discussed about some philosophical issue regarding life (via Skype!!).
I adore these images and I adore the line of clothes that they carry.

I've never thought how a fashion brand could give you so much in feelings. "They are really comfortable" ML tells me and the only thing I could say was "They make me feel comfortable only by looking at them". I hope you'll enjoy the images and the collection of EairTh. And...if life ain't a suit...don't go around naked...just pick something that makes you comfortable. Like me looking at these images...simply because here I can't find these clothes...yet!

I miss LA!

So, here I am! The weekend passed by very fast. Sometimes I wish weekends were actually longer. Went out on friday night, happy hour or happy hourS, dinner and back home at 3am. Did I have fun? No, actually no. Happy hour is always the same thing. Same drinks, same people and same conversations. It's like a copy and paste of reality moments. Small town life. I spend the other 2 days recovering from all of it. From the cheap wine, from the good dinner (that unfortunately made me sick...god... I thought I was going to die!!) and, on top of everything, these past days I tried to recover from the bad and empty conversations I had to take part to. Easy to say "well Lily, change your friends". I know that, I wrote so many posts about the crew that surrounds me!!! Anyway, today back into the same old routine. Work! Work and thoughts. Thoughts and work. I am checking flights on the net. Flights for LA. I am almost positive I'll fly there this summer. I miss the city so much. I miss my friends. I miss having everything outside the door. Movies, museums, food from all over the world, the ocean, the weirdos, places and spaces. Billboards, palm trees, billboards that become like nature itself. Structures and signs. Signs of structures. Ok, back to reality. Outside my window nothing really changed! It's not raining although it's pretty cloudy. The government building is still there. The 3 castles too. The crew that surrounds me is also there. Somewhere. I just hope not too close!!!

I liked this place so much we decided to spend our last night there...

Is winter really gone????

I am back! And I am not sure if that is a positive thing!!! I left the fabulous Engadin to come back to Ticino. I left one region with meters of snow to come back to my old town to discover spring had already showed up! It felt kind of weird all dressed up in cashmere/wool and other very heavy stuff and see people walking around in t-shirts! I kind of already miss looking outside the hotel window to see an enormous amount of snow...! I am sure that here no more snow will arrive. Winter is really in the past. Still, in St. Moritz the ski resorts will be open until may...I might decide to go back there for a weekend...or maybe not!
First post of my strange week vacation!

Soul-Windows

I read a book lately about the science of shopping and it gave me some good insight...not only about shopping also about projecting some consumeristic theories to human behaviours. The book, "Why we buy" explains the way retailers organize and advertise their store with the only intent of inviting people to go in their store and ultimately buy. From the display of windows, to lighting organization, to internal layouts. A good windows is the base of a good invitation. It is funny how strategically in many stores men fashion is the first thing you encounter. Why? Because statistically women have no problem walking through a store to go to their department. But what interested me the most was the exteriority of marketing. We see what they sell. Or at least a portion of it. You want to go deeper in to find what you are looking for and maybe more. Some store become a work of art, some of them just tell you "come in, there is more", some of them though have such a bad front window that you just do not look or maybe you don't even see. But are people like shopping windows? Do they fix their appearances to invite you in? To let them know you? Some people I hanged around with do it, but in a way a really bad store would do! What you see outside is just a big lie. Once you penetrate deep in their soul/mind what you find is scaring shit!!! Fake expensive brands as if to show their status...a fake one obviously! They hang around rich people to be elevated in some sort of new social level that exist only in their fake existence. WHY??? So, I rather prefer a shitty window that at least doesn't lie to me than one that promises gold and in fact it only offers trash! And I love trash, I even did a photo series with it...but I was looking for it!
Great book the Paco Underhill one...I probably just subjectivized too much the content!!!
